I’m a huge fan of community allotments. I’ve long loved the Transition Loughborough allotment, and have enjoyed lots of delicious produce as a result.
I have recently discovered the joys of Fearon Hall’s allotment. While the space is modest, it’s packed with beautiful flowers.
There are herb bushes – ideal for the zero waste cafe in the hall – plus tomatoes, beans and cucumbers that have just been harvested.
For a small space, it also manages to fit in a greenhouse and planting table, so volunteers can grow plants to share and sell at community events.
There’s even a secret garden…
If you’re based in Loughborough, visit the community allotments – and check out the foraging map too. If not, find out what’s available in your area. You may be pleasantly surprised.
